Productivity / RESEARCH COMPARISON
Softr vs Glide
Choose a data-driven business app
We have not conducted hands-on tests of this pair. Product scope comes from the official sources below; the selection advice and suggested exercise are our editorial analysis. We currently have no confirmed affiliate link for either product in this comparison. Our method and funding.
THE SHORT ANSWER
Our conclusion
Shortlist Softr first for a client portal and Glide first for a field or operations app. Both overlap heavily. If your brief fits both, decide on data-source fit and the real user journey rather than claiming one has universally better permissions or usability.
Side-by-side comparison
Read across each row: the same criterion, two approaches and the practical consequence. Capabilities describe the product offering, not a promise that every free or entry plan includes them.
| Criterion | Softr | Glide | What this means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core output | Portals and internal business tools | Custom business apps for desktop and mobile | Both are real no-code app candidates. |
| Data approach | Built-in database and connected tools | Apps connected to live business data | Existing data location influences setup work. |
| Access control | Granular app permissions | Control over who sees and changes data | Verify record access with two distinct user roles. |
| Starting brief | Client/member portal and internal-tool journeys | Operational screens for office and field work | Match the interface to the people entering data. |
| Cost drivers | Users, data and workflow capacity | Users, data and operational usage | Include maintenance, not only the initial app build. |
Strengths and trade-offs
Softr
Why choose it: A clear portal-and-permissions starting point.
Trade-off: Permission rules and data connections need ongoing ownership.
Glide
Why choose it: An app-led approach across desktop and mobile.
Trade-off: Custom screens and data rules need ongoing ownership.
Make the decision with your own evidence
Choose the two criteria below that matter most to your work. Run the same small task in both products and record a pass, a fail or an unresolved question. An untested requirement is unknown, not a pass. A failed must-have outweighs optional extras.
| Criterion to test | What to record for each product |
|---|---|
| Core output | Both are real no-code app candidates. Record the exact plan, observed result and any workaround. |
| Data approach | Existing data location influences setup work. Record the exact plan, observed result and any workaround. |
| Access control | Verify record access with two distinct user roles. Record the exact plan, observed result and any workaround. |
| Starting brief | Match the interface to the people entering data. Record the exact plan, observed result and any workaround. |
| Cost drivers | Include maintenance, not only the initial app build. Record the exact plan, observed result and any workaround. |

If both products pass
Compare the total cost for the same workload, then the effort to move your files and train the next user. Keep a working setup when neither alternative solves a concrete problem. If neither passes, return to the software finder with the missing requirement.
Before purchasing in Europe
Check availability in your country, invoice currency and applicable VAT, renewal and cancellation terms, supported languages and support hours. For uploaded business data, review the provider's processing terms and export/deletion options. These are checks to make, not a claim that either provider meets every requirement.
Evidence: official product information; free-plan figures checked 20 September 2026 where shown. The practical implications and conclusion are WePickTools’ editorial assessment. No hands-on performance scores. See the source section on this page.
Why this conclusion?
Both are candidates for turning operational information into a usable application. Begin with Softr for a portal-shaped brief and Glide for an app-shaped operational brief, then challenge that initial shortlist with the same data and permissions exercise.
A useful trial exercise
Use a fictional equipment register with twenty assets, three owners and two roles. Create an asset, assign it, mark it returned and find an overdue item. Test from a narrow phone screen as well as a desktop. Give an ordinary user the link and check what they can change.
Record completion time, manual corrections and unresolved requirements in the evaluation worksheet. This is a suggested exercise for you to run, not a report of tests we performed.
Three questions to resolve
- How are user roles and record visibility enforced?
- What happens when two people change the same record?
- Can the owner export the data without rebuilding it?
Compare the full cost
Count active users, data operations, storage and any external data subscription. Include the time needed to maintain rules when the team changes.
Use the same workload and billing period in our software cost calculator. Obtain current plan details, currency, applicable taxes and cancellation terms before committing.
When to pause the purchase
A successful demonstration with one administrator does not establish that a multi-user application is ready.
