Pipedrive vs Close

Pipeline coordination or an outbound sales workflow?

We have not conducted hands-on tests of this pair. Product scope comes from the official sources below; the selection advice and suggested exercise are our editorial analysis. We currently have no confirmed affiliate link for either product in this comparison. Our method and funding.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Our conclusion

Choose Pipedrive for a pipeline-centred team, especially if its existing communication tools already work. Choose Close when calls and messages dominate the day and consolidating those actions with sales records is the priority. Neither creates qualified leads by itself.

Side-by-side comparison

Read across each row: the same criterion, two approaches and the practical consequence. Capabilities describe the product offering, not a promise that every free or entry plan includes them.

Strengths and trade-offs

Pipedrive

Why choose it: A pipeline-and-next-action approach to coordinating deals.

Trade-off: Your preferred phone stack may introduce another integration.

Close

Why choose it: Communication and sales records in one workflow.

Trade-off: Communication costs still need a realistic usage estimate.

Make the decision with your own evidence

Choose the two criteria below that matter most to your work. Run the same small task in both products and record a pass, a fail or an unresolved question. An untested requirement is unknown, not a pass. A failed must-have outweighs optional extras.

If both products pass

Compare the total cost for the same workload, then the effort to move your files and train the next user. Keep a working setup when neither alternative solves a concrete problem. If neither passes, return to the software finder with the missing requirement.

Before purchasing in Europe

Check availability in your country, invoice currency and applicable VAT, renewal and cancellation terms, supported languages and support hours. For uploaded business data, review the provider's processing terms and export/deletion options. These are checks to make, not a claim that either provider meets every requirement.

Why this conclusion?

Pipedrive is a relevant first candidate for organising deals and next actions. Close is a relevant candidate when calls and messages are central to the sales workflow. Verify the exact communication features and allowances of the plan you would buy.

A useful trial exercise

Create five fictional opportunities with different next steps. Log one call, schedule a follow-up, hand a deal to a colleague and mark one lost with a reason. Ask the manager to identify stalled opportunities without consulting a separate spreadsheet.

Record completion time, manual corrections and unresolved requirements in the evaluation worksheet. This is a suggested exercise for you to run, not a report of tests we performed.

Three questions to resolve

  1. Can the salesperson see the next action immediately?
  2. How are calls and emails associated with a deal?
  3. Can contact and activity history be exported?

Compare the full cost

Compare paid seats, communication usage, number charges, add-ons and migration effort. Do not compare the base seat price with a fully loaded communication package.

Use the same workload and billing period in our software cost calculator. Obtain current plan details, currency, applicable taxes and cancellation terms before committing.

When to pause the purchase

Buying a CRM does not create a qualified prospect list or permission to contact it.
